Weekend Confetti Vol. 30
July 31, 2021
Welcome to Weekend Confetti!
Here you will find your weekly dose of interesting and merry miscellany that you didn’t know you needed to know. I hope it adds some joy to your weekend! Cheers!
Listen up, all you wizzards and Muggles! Today is Harry Potter’s birthday! The most obvious way to celebrate would be with a Harry Potter movie marathon (re-reading all the books would take much longer than one day, after all). But if you are looking for some different ideas, may I suggest…
Check out the Wizarding World website, where you can participate in a Hogwart’s Sorting Ceremony (ie: find out what house you would be sorted into), Find your Wand, Reveal your Patronus and take about a hundred fun quizzes to test your knowledge of all things Harry & Hogwarts.
You could create your own Triwizard Tournament experience.
Or make some Butterbeer cupcakes!
Play the Harry Potter version of Would You Rather?
Learn the actual rules of Quidditch. (Yes, it’s a real thing.)
Work on your Hogwart’s fashion. This couple recreates costumes from the world of Harry Potter and they are amazing!
And if all this seems a little juvenile to you, (first of all, you don’t know what you’re missing) perhaps you should read this fantastic article on How You Can Rediscover the Power of Play as an Adult. Get ready to have your world rocked. I love it.
Today also happens to be National Avocado Day. Which is slightly less exciting than Harry Potter’s birthday, but not by much.
To celebrate, you could make your own guac…or get some for free at Chipotle. If guac isn’t your thing, here are 5 more ways to celebrate (including ice cream!?)
I don’t usually look in the rear view, but Thursday was National Lipstick Day. I feel like that can’t go unrecognized.
One item on my Bucket List that is still not checked off is learning how to create the perfect red lip. Which of course involves finding the perfect red for my skin tone.
Next step, the fun part…shopping for a new lipstick. Here are 19 recommendations. And here are some special deals this week in honor of National Lipstick Day.
If you need a little LIPspiration to get going, try MAC or NARS on Instagram. And here is a different way to apply lipstick I might actually try.
The first week of August is National Farmer’s Market Week. There are a lot of reasons for supporting your local farmer’s market (here are a few), not the least of which is yummy produce and homemade goodies! To find the markets closest to you, check here and here.
This interview with the ever-hilarious Jennifer Coolidge (of Legally Blonde and Best in Show fame). She is just so incredibly herself.
This week’s Kindness Intention: to spoil two lovely girls at Auntie Camp at my house. Don’t be fooled into thinking all the kindness has to be ‘out there’. Sometimes the best way to show kindness is right under our noses.
And here is some kindness I found out in the world to make you smile at the goodness of people.
And lastly, don’t believe me? Just watch. (This might be the best one of these I’ve seen. The timing is perfect.)
What is a Kindness Intention?
It is a way of keeping kindness more intentional in my own life by setting a weekly goal of kindness. And hopefully inspiring you to do something kind in your own world!
Happy Weekend, Joy Ambassadors!
