Weekend Confetti Vol. 28

July 17, 2021

Welcome to Weekend Confetti!

Here you will find your weekly dose of interesting and merry miscellany that you didn’t know you needed to know.   I hope it adds some joy to your weekend!  Cheers!

Happy National Ice Cream Month! And tomorrow, Sunday, July 18th, is National Ice Cream DAY.  For real. In 1984, President Ronald Reagan declared the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day. And the world was forever improved.

Let’s take this celebration seriously, y’all. I lovelovelove ice cream. So here are a few ideas to indulge:

My favorite ice cream desert to make.

Check out the most popular ice-cream flavors in each state. (I heartily disagree with mine…Rum Raisin? Seriously?)

The best ice cream shops in the U.S. Sounds like a road trip to me. (If you live in NY you are seriously set.)

Ice cream’s smoother version: how to make the perfect milkshake. (In case you want to bring all the boys to the yard.)

Or…some yummy-looking boozy ice-cream drinks. If that seems like too much work ofr a hot summer day, how about some boozy ice-cream straight from the carton!

And if you were wondering how all this ice-cream fuss came to be, here is a Short History of Ice Cream. (MY favorite part: how the ice-cream sundae was invented!)

Tomorrow is also World Listening Day. (The hubs told me that men don’t actually celebrate this one. Whatever.)

World Listening Day was established as a way to better understand our world and environment through soundscapes: the natural and human-made sounds that make up a sense of place. You can explore different soundscapes on the app myNoise. where you can calibrate and animate all sorts of natural sounds. It’s pretty cool. Not to mention relaxing!

You can also try taking a soundwalk, a simple type of meditation where your focus is outward on the sounds around you.

Or you can try a Summer Saunter (a soulful summer playlist)

I don’t think you would be remiss in spending World Listening Day actually working on being a better listener in general. Consider:

This week’s Kindness Intention: to gift an inspirational book to someone who needs a lift

And here is some kindness I found out in the world to make you smile at the goodness of people.

And lastly, a dog’s first vacation will make you smile.

What is a Kindness Intention?

It is a way of keeping kindness more intentional in my own life by setting a weekly goal of kindness. And hopefully inspiring you to do something kind in your own world!
