Weekend Confetti Vol. 8

Feb. 27, 2021

Welcome to Weekend Confetti!

Here you will find your weekly dose of interesting and merry miscellany that you didn’t know you needed to know.   I hope it adds some joy to your weekend!  Enjoy!

February 27th is International Polar Bear Day! If you are looking for ideas on what to be when you grow up, add Polar Bear Patrol to the list! (I was Safety Patrol once-upon-a-time: I don’t think that was quite as exciting.)

Facts I did not know about polar bears: their paws can be up to a foot wide, they have blue tounges and they spend roughly 50% of their time hunting for food. (That’s a lot of work for dinner.)

Speaking of dinner, I read some interesting articles while preparing for this week’s blog post on Showing some Love to our diets.

If you want to live in one of the healthiest countries in the world, you may need to plan a move. If living past 100 years old is your goal, pack your bags for Okinawa’s blue zone.

I loved this tradition that is considered one of the secrets to their spectacular longevity.

All the reading and writing about a healthier relationship with food has me borrowing the neighbor’s blender and planning to try some of these. I’ll let you know which one ends up being my favorite.

This week I also had an internal (and external) debate about whether or not it was important to finish a book once you’ve started it. (I’m struggling with this one.)

I have been a devoted follower of the camp that says you must (eventually) finish all books that you begin. (Mr. Perfect disagrees.) But as I’m getting older I’m questioning that.

The idea of spending hours reading something that either depresses me (see book mentioned above) or is poorly written, or whatever the reason….is starting to feel more like time ill-spent.

I had to laugh at myself…if I choose not to finish 5 books in a year, out of say 70+ that I read, does that make me the ‘sort-of person who doesn’t finish books‘? (Insert eye-roll here.)

Some books are worth the effort. Others, I’m starting to think, maybe not. To Finish or NOT To Finish…that is the question.

Do you have an opinion on this? Please advise.

I may actually move on to read something else. Suggestions requested.

Last week I introduced the Weekly Kindness Inspiration: a way of keeping kindness more intentional in my own life and hopefully inspiring you to do something kind in yours!

This week’s Kindness Inspiration: I’m going to take the time to call someone I haven’t talked to in a while…and not be in a hurry to get off the phone. 🙂

And lastly, here is proof that sometimes opposites DO fit together nicely.  It made me smile.

Happy Weekend!!
